MaryLou – About the Designer
Marie-Louise is the designer behind MaryLou jewellery. She designs and makes all the jewellery by hand in her small shop on Gammelkongevej in Copenhagen.
Marie-Louise first got a taste for the jewellery profession when she was doing an internship in a jewellery shop in the 9th grade. The internship subsequently led to a permanent job in the store, and all of a sudden Marie-Louise’s everyday life was surrounded by jewellery. “I’ve had a dream of becoming a jeweller since I was very young. A friend of the family introduced me to the industry and taught me some basic techniques that I later evolved through courses and schooling.”
After school, Marie-Louise moved to London, where she took courses in different jewellery making techniques. When she returned to Denmark, she studied to become a Metalsmith at Copenhagen Technical School, and afterwards took the Basic Course as a Goldsmith at Guldsmedehøjskolen. It was during her studies at Grundforløbet that Marie-Louise started up her own label – MaryLou Jewellery.
Today, Marie-Louise creates her small works of art at her work table in her boutique in central Copenhagen. Behind the store’s large windows, she unfolds her adventurous and colourful universe, where whimsical details play up against colourful gemstones and beautiful pearls. Marie-Louise loves colours, as well as mixing and matching her jewellery, which creates connecting dots as a colourful thread between her designs. The colourful jewellery designer works every day to create jewellery that you will love for a long time. “The greatest joy of my work is being allowed to create memories and hopefully jewellery that can be passed on to next generations.” tells Marie-Louise.
